PHP Conference recap

2006-11-10 19:16:10
Since Wednesday I'm back from this year's PHP Cofnerence at Frnakfurt. As always it was great fun and it's time to write a short recap.

After taking my univesity courses in the morning I arrived on monday afternoon at the hotel at Mörfelden. While checking in at the reception Marcus came and told me that the Code Camp was taking part at the room called Tempelhof and I should join asap. So I finished up the check-in procedure and went to my room to put my luggage away. and joined the code camp where Marcus and Sara taught the audience the basics of writing exensions for PHP. The audience was quite interested and there were quite a few discussions and questions. After a break with some not as delicious pizza as announced and some free beer, which came late, Caitlin appeared at the session, so we two spent some time looking at some photos from Marcus' and Caitlin's Europe trip and visits to some conferences, while Marcus and Sara continued the workshop with a shrunken audience. Afterwards we joined the other's at the bar where I met some of my ex-colleagues from Mayflower.

On Tuesday I got up quite late - just in time to get some breakfast before they put it away. I spent most of the time, interrupted by joining sessions from my friend Johann and a talk from Toby and Kore, in the lobby meeting the guys running around and teaching Caitlin quite a few useful German sentences which continued till lunch which I left early to join Sara and Marcus, again, for the follow-up of the code camp. The audience was quite reduced and got quite in-depth information about PHP internals. At the end Matthias Pigulla had quite some interesting questions, which even led us to find an engine bug. Matthias was quite happy to get his questions answered. The evening ended with some free beer at the PHP Lounge where we had good possibilities to talk a bit and Caitlin tried her new vocabulary, with important sentences like "Fürchte die Gabel" ("Fear the fork") or questions like "Willst Du ein Schaumbad mit mir nehmen?" ("Do you want to take a bubble bath with me?"). As the day before the evening ended at the hotel bar after there was no free beer left.

Wednesday was quite short for me since I left the hotel with the shuttle at 9:15 since I had to be on a course at university back in Munich at 15:15.
